KHPS Student Surveys

At Kenowa Hills, we believe our students’ voices matter—and that families deserve a clear window into how those voices are heard. This page is where we share any student surveys we administer, along with summaries or results of those surveys. Our goal is to be open and transparent about the questions we ask, how we use the feedback to improve our schools, and how this process supports a safe, welcoming, and high-quality learning experience for every student. In addition, posting this information helps us meet the requirements of the Michigan School Aid Act, which asks districts to make student surveys and their results available to the public and to notify parents about them.

Restorative Practices Research Study Survey

For the 2025-26 school year, Kenowa Hills Public Schools continued a partnership with Michigan State University to collect data to inform the district’s implementation of Restorative Practices.

This research-based survey is designed and administered by Michigan State University. The research study seeks to 1) identify what effective Restorative Practices implementation looks like and where Restorative Practices are being implemented effectively; 2) understand the impacts of Restorative Practices on a range of outcomes; and 3) identify areas for improvement, sustainability, and scale-up moving forward.

The survey is completed by students in September. A copy of the secondary student survey (grades 6-12) is available for review here (link coming soon).

Survey results for the 2025-26 school year will be provided once they are made available by Michigan State University.

The purpose of this survey is to give students and families a voice. Your input helps us understand how well our school is building strong relationships, creating a safe and supportive environment, and setting high expectations for learning and behavior. This data is used by building administrators and CKH Process Champions to inform process improvements and training needs.

The survey is completed by students in late November and early December before Winter Break. A copy of the elementary student survey (grades 3-5) is available for review here. A copy of the secondary student survey (grades 6-12) is available for review here. A family survey asks similar questions from the perspective of parents and guardians.

Survey results for each building will be provided after February 1 of each school year.

Capturing Kids’ Hearts End-of-Year Survey

Much like the Mid-Year Survey, the purpose of this survey is to give students and families a voice. This input helps measure each school's efforts to build strong relationships, create a safe and supportive environment, and set high expectations for learning and behavior. This data is used by building administrators and CKH Process Champions to inform process improvements and plan for training needs for the upcoming school year.

The survey is completed by students in late April and early May. A copy of the elementary student survey (grades 3-5) is available for review here (link coming soon). A copy of the secondary student survey (grades 6-12) is available for review here (link coming soon). A family survey asks similar questions from the perspective of parents and guardians.

Survey results for each building will be provided after June 1 of each school year.

School Improvement Process Surveys

The purpose of this survey is to collect feedback and ideas from students on how their school functions. The survey asks questions about the following components of school operations at all KHPS schools.

  1. School systems
  2. Student support structures,
  3. Building leadership
  4. Collaboration practices
  5. Overall academic and operational performance
  6. And other perceptions related to school operations

This information is reviewed by members of the building and district School Improvement Teams to inform and guide the development of school improvement goals, objectives, and related action steps.

These surveys are completed by students in February and March. A copy of the elementary student survey (grades 3-5) is available for review here (link coming soon). A copy of the secondary student survey (grades 6-12) is available for review here (link coming soon). A family survey asks similar questions from the perspective of parents and guardians.

Survey results for each building will be provided after May 1 of each school year.

MI Student Voice Survey

The MI Student Voice Survey was created to provide a holistic view of student experiences in Michigan schools — beyond what standardized test scores capture.

The purpose of this survey is to uplift student voice. It does so by gathering feedback directly from students about how they experience school. That feedback is intended to help guide school and district improvement planning: in classroom instruction, support services, school culture, facilities, and more.

The MI Student Voice Survey assesses student perceptions in three primary domains:

  • Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) - This domain captures how well schools support students’ social and emotional skill development
  • Student Engagement - This domain measures how engaged students feel in their learning
  • Belonging - This domain captures students’ sense of belonging, acceptance, inclusion, and connectedness to peers and school culture

These surveys are completed by students in mid-March prior to Spring Break. A copy of the elementary student survey (grade 5) is available for review here (link coming soon). A copy of the secondary student survey (grades 6-12) is available for review here (link coming soon).
